Showbiz Journalism

This showbiz journalism course at Glasgow Clyde College, isn’t offered anywhere else in Scotland, will give those with a passion for journalism and the celebrity scene to get their foot in the door of the industry and an insight into how to ensure a successful career on the showbiz circuit.

You will be given a grounding in general journalism skills, with a particular focus on reporting showbiz/celebrity news.

It will be an innovative course that relies heavily on first-hand anecdotal experiences from some of the most successful showbiz reporters in Scotland and the UK as a whole, each of whom boast an extensive celebrity contacts book.

Course content

You will learn:

  • Research skills; researching every story/topic you cover, this will include the importance of building up a strong contacts book and networking via social media
  • Reporting on breaking showbiz stories, including red carpet events
  • Covering privacy regulations and ethical considerations within journalism
  • Interview skills including how a press conference works and how to secure exclusive sit-downs with high profile celebrities
  • How to deal with difficult celebrities
  • Writing celebrity interviews
  • Writing reviews and columns
  • Meeting showbiz PRs for an insight into how the industry operates

Entry requirements (minimum)

This course is suitable for anyone over 16 with a passion for journalism and celebrity/show business culture. No previous experience or knowledge is required. It is ideal for anyone who wishes to progress on to HND Practical Journalism course, also offered at Glasgow Clyde College
