PDA Supporting Adult Literacies Learning

This award is ideal for those who wish to assist with tutoring adults in numeracy and literacy. 

It is ideal for those who would like to volunteer as a Literacy Tutor Assistant or to gain employment as a Literacy Tutor, or for those already employed in this area and wish to gain a qualifications.

This course will give you an awareness of adult literacy needs in Scotland and will prepare you to undertake the role of tutor assistant, supporting a learner(s) to develop their reading, writing, and numeracy capabilities

Course content

  • background of adult literacy needs in Scotland
  • how to promote adult literacies learning
  • roles and responsibilities of the Tutor Assistant, the Group Tutor and adult literacies learners
  • approaches to building confidence and motivation in adult literacies learners
  • planning adult literacies learning
  • delivering and developing adult literacies learning using a social practice approach
  • evaluating adult literacies learning.

By the end of this course you will be more competent and confident in your own reading, writing and numeracy ability, helping you support young people and adults to develop their own skills.

 

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • basic IT skills
  • communications and numeracy (or equivalent) SCQF level 5 
  • personal statement and a placement.
