Online Shorthand

This online shorthand course at Glasgow Clyde College is ideal for those looking to learn or refresh their Teeline shorthand skills, the shorthand system accepted by the National Council for the Training of Journalist.

The course provides a thorough understanding of the theory and principles of writing Teeline shorthand.

Course content

  • theory of Teeline from writing the alphabet to advanced word groupings
  • techniques for speed building
  • audio, video and animation content to help with both learning theory and building speed
  • online T-Bar resource where candidates can interact with the lecturer and each other
  • weekly Twitter hour for online support
  • several class contact sessions for induction and assessment.

You will practice writing shorthand at speed with a view to sitting a nationally-recognised exam with the National Council for the Training of Journalists at a minimum of 60 words per minute.

This course offers a unique range of online tools to help you succeed. The course provides a strong mix of audio and visual content as well as online interaction. 

Course fee is £200.

The course is delivered online and you will be given access to this once payment has been made.

Entry requirements (minimum)

This course has no entry requirements.

Progression routes

You may progress on to an HND or degree programmes in journalism, the NCTJ’s nationally-recognised Diploma in Journalism or, for experienced reporters, the National Qualification in Journalism.
