This course will introduce you to working with a wide range of ceramic techniques. It is suitable for those who are beginners or those who are more advanced. Guidance and individual support will be given to you as you develop your skills and create your own personal projects. If you successfully complete this course you may gain an SQA National Unit in Hand Built Ceramics.

The course is taught by Anne Hamilton, lecturer in Contemporary Art Practice at Glasgow Clyde College. Anne is an award winning former student of Glasgow School of Art. 

Course content

  • Preparation and handling ceramic material
  • Health and safety in the studio
  • Kilns and firing ceramic materials
  • Hand building techniques
  • Press moulding
  • Various glazing and decoration techniques. 

Progression routes

This course will help you to build up a portfolio of images which could be helpful in applying for an Art related course.
